Just finished 1709 download after checking for it manually. Took two and a quarter hours from start to finish and no problems encountered. I am from the same {old} school as Grumpy Hec and delete all the dross I am never going to use. I don't have the tile start menu active, all the apps I use on a daily basis are on the task bar or favourites drop down menu and this is my preferred way of working. I suppose I'm lucky in that my broadband speed when last measured {today prior to download} is 111mbps. Whats not to like. IW. PS I root all my mobile phones to, no bloat for me.

Hi have never had an issue with windows until this 1709 one it seem it has reset all my apps to factory settings and deleted my settings and add on stuff, I think windows is getting to clever, because there are many flavours to windows 10, so it tries to down load to comply with the software you have the way you work and the specific hardware you have installed then, then it starts deleting what it believes is not required.

so it ends up with a mess for some and perfectly ok for the others.

The 1703 update reset all my privacy settings which is odd, because before it installed I was asked to review them. I set all the spyware to "disabled" and then after the installation noticed it had all been re-enabled. I will keep a close eye out for 1709 when it's offered. One of my machines has an Intel Atom processor incompatible with 1703 so that and newer updates will never install - I'm quite pleased about that!

Last night the WiFi could not be turned on, only "Aircraft Mode"...

Using the Ipad to check what's happened and it turns out 1709 turns it off, and it has to be turned on manually. Over 2000 other people asked the same question in the Microsoft users forum.

How do people without IT skills, or another way of accessing the web, get on with these things.

I would dearly like to get access to the carpark at Microsoft and clamp every car, with a sticker on the wind screen saying "UPDATING"...............

One of my machines suddenly went into aircraft mode the other day without any help from me, and it's still on 1611!

In my opinion Windows has become an absurdly over-complex OS for a personal computer, and as a friend of mine puts it "what Intel giveth Microsoft taketh away" ..
