Question Photography at Stanstead Airport

Is this a good idea or the path towards more restrictions ?

Re: Photography at Stanstead Airport

Interesting. My first thought is that it looks like a reasonable compromise. If I wanted to go and do something like that regularly I think I would be happy to apply for a permit. It would be better than relying on goodwill of the staff you might bump into on the day.

If you are not to embarrassed to be labelled as a plane watcher, then it seems to be a reasonable idea. Pity the Greeks do not do such a scheme.

Re: Photography at Stanstead Airport

Seems a bit pointless and potentially the thin end of the wedge towards the removal of basic rights.

Re: Photography at Stanstead Airport

Sorry Graham but this is "old news" and has nothing to do with photography.

The Essex Police document you linked to refers to BAA and BAA sold Stansted to Manchester Airport Group (MAG) in early 2013. There is no reference in the linked document ( or the Ts&Cs for the scheme) to photography.

I remember local media coverage about the scheme when it was introduced and it is exactly what the document says it is. There are no "permits" and members still have, like anyone else to comply with all laws and bye-laws. The Essex Police team at the airport had already established a friendly raport with the regular "plane spotters" and realised that they could provide more sets of "useful and informed eyes" for them in their task of protecting the airport from potential terrorist and criminal activities (and the more recent threat from "Drones" causing hazards to aircraft). That the scheme is still operating suggests that it continues to be useful and is, I believe an example of sensible engagement between the Police and the general public to the benifit of all.

Regards.
