Steam Up! Set 2

Second set of shots from the Forncett Steam Museum. Some great opportunities for photographers around running steam engines.

Getting misty in 'ere!
The small four-cylinder steam launch engine.
[IMG][/IMG]

I'll start this thing if it kills me!
The owner getting a large beam pumping engine over top dead centre, so that it can be started. The second attempt.... The cylinder is clad in wood, on the right, just in the shot. This gives a good idea of the scale of the thing!
[IMG][/IMG]

Cranky.
The 45hp vertical engine running. The cylinder was just above my head, out of the shot.
[IMG][/IMG]

Overhead belting.
Most workshops were like this a few decades ago! And this workshop is used for real, to repair the engines, make new parts, and so on.

There will be some more to come yet.
I hope you enjoy these and find them interesting. Thanks for looking, and as always, all comments very welcome.

I see what you mean by great photo ops at the museum there Keith, and you've certainly taken advantage of them. #1 is a cracker.

Re: Steam Up! Set 2

Hi there Keith!

I really enjoy museums like this - the boat museum at Ellesmere Port has an engine shed, although they don't always have something running. Number 1 really conveys the reality of a working steam engine, with the clouds of steam and threshing pistons, but my favourite is the last one - the sense of motion in the wheels and belts is beautifully captured.

Thanks for posting,

Cheers,

Ralph.

Thanks Ralph (and all)
This museum is only in steam once a month or maybe less; but it seems so dead when it's not in steam. I liked #4 as well; you don't often see overhead belting working these days!
