Circular Polarising Filter-moved from Lounge

I am thinking I should add a CPF to my kit - for landscapes.
I would be using it on my 12-60mm lens.

Any suggestions on which brand I should be looking at?

Ps Sorry mods - perhaps this should have been in Accessory Talk?

Lyn - moved it for you!

I would suggest either the higher-end Hoya filters or a B+W filter. And I would advise you get a slimline mount to avoid vignetting at wide focal lengths.

Re: Circular Polarising Filter-moved from Lounge

Hi Lyn

I use a Tiffen CPL on my 12-60 SWD on the grounds they are a well known and respected US make which in the UK at least, probably due to the v $ exchange rate, are good value at the moment. Not sure if that holds true though in Aus.

I would stick to the better known makes (Hoya, B+W, Tiffen etc) on that lens as it is a quality piece of glass so deserves another quality optical element in front of it. False economy to short change yourself after spending money on an excellent lens like that.

I have got Marumi CPL which I have to say gives good results on another lens and feels like a quality item. Again in the UK they have been a good price although I notice they have been creeping up of late.

cheers

Hec

Re: Circular Polarising Filter-moved from Lounge

Having just moved to the EM1 and 20-40mm lens I have sold my 12-60 lens: a very hard decision. As a result I am selling my Hoya Pro filter, I am looking for £35 inc P&P.

Re: Circular Polarising Filter-moved from Lounge

Thanks Stephen and Hec - you have given me some starting points.
The Oz $ is not too good against the Yankee $ at the moment, so I will check local prices out.
I don't intend to buy cheap - Hec is right. The lens deserves a good filter.
I hope John (Zuiko) sees this post - he will think I am getting serious at last about landscapes!
Thanks for moving the post Stephen - I was reading in the Lounge and brain was in neutral when I made the post.
