Re: Photographer's rights

I have had a reply from the Home Office. Its the standard generic one that everyone seems to be getting

"Dear Mr Baker,

Thank you for your e-mail of 18 April about photography in public places.

There is no legal restriction on photography in public places, and there is no presumption of privacy for individuals in a public place.

It is for the Chief Constable to ensure that Officers and Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) are acting appropriately with regards to photography in public places, and any queries regarding this should be addressed to the Chief Constable.

However, decisions may be made locally to restrict photography, for example to protect children. Any questions on such local decisions should also be addressed to the force concerned.

Yours sincerely,

Khaleed Edoo
Direct Communications Unit
"

The problems is ACPO say they do not have any guidelines, and its up to the local Chief Constables.

I was pleased that I did get a reply. I will print it out and take it with me

So, given the feedback and the information received, are members interested in carying around a printed (what ever the size) rules/guidelines? Is it worth me carrying on with this idea?

YES and YES

I have people outside this forum ( Non Oly users) who would love one - even if it had a picture of an Olympus on it !

Regards
Andy

John,
Yes please.

PS if you laminate them, you will have to make sure the corners are rounded off, or you may get some PCSO considering the sharp corners as an offensive weapon

Photographic shuriken - I like that idea!

John - I think loads of people would be grateful for this. I carry the "photographers rights" PDF in my bag, but it's too long winded.

In an ideal world this would work

On one side:

and if they persist with their inapropriate behaviour

on the other

It has to be this simple as because the complexity of the law is clearly beyond them...
