Re: Olympus announces the new Pen E-P5

Wow a thousand pound for a camera that has no viewfinder or weather sealing.

Much has I like it I'll pass or wait till it drops a lot in price.

It even makes the OMD and GH3 seem good value.

Re: Olympus announces the new Pen E-P5

Apart from seals and integrated viewfinder (and the option of a grip), practically everything else about the E-P3 is as good as and much of it is better than an E-M5.

Re: Olympus announces the new Pen E-P5

Ian any news on the price of the new VF4 ? It would make a good replacement for my VF2.

Re: Olympus announces the new Pen E-P5

So ... We can expect some of the new features, such as the pin-point focus area and the 1/8000 shutter speed, to form part of the E-M5 successor. And maybe the VF-4 is an evolution up from the E-M5 finder as well.

Re: Olympus announces the new Pen E-P5

The EP-5 does look the business....and with the sensor of the EM-5 it looks like a very desirable package to me. I'd definately let the E-P1 go for it.

Different strokes for different folks, I hope it's a success and that any innovations filter back into a camera that is weathersealed and has an integrated viewfinder.

I'd be very surprised if this was not the case.

Fair enough, but not everyone needs sealing and the VF-4 EVF, although optional, is significantly better than the E-M5 one.

Whilst I've always been a fan of the EVF on the Pens, you can't get away from the fact it's an ugly lump which spoils the cameras lines. If they could somehow have rounded the edges to make it blend in more.

The VF-4 looks much nicer than the old VF-2.

Re: Olympus announces the new Pen E-P5

The VF-4 is £249 on its own, incidentally.

I do like the eyecup. If it wasn't quite so expensive, I might have bought one for the XZ-2 (presuming it's the same fitment?).

Re: Olympus announces the new Pen E-P5

Yes the VF-4 is backwards compatible but the eye sensor only works with the E-P5.

That's good, it's one of the areas where there was significant room for improvement so hopefully we'll see it migrate into the mythical new all-dancing body

And I know that not everybody needs sealing or an integrated viewfinder, but just look at what happened to the sales figures as soon as Oly brought out a body that had both. It's not just me
