Re: My New Novel

Just finished reading Death in Spiggs Wood, brilliant!
Couldn't put it down, a gripping tale with great procedural detail.

Having spent all but the first two years of my life in Essex I had great fun trying to guess where some of the fictitious towns might be.The section where Meg nearly "absconds" from the Magistrates Court and the Crown Court scenes were very vivid for me. For the first 13 years of our marriage we lived just off New Street in Chelmsford, I worked at Marconi's and sometimes walked up New Street for lunch at a wine bar called "Peelers" which an enterprising individual had opened in the basement cells of the old police station just behind the Magistrate's court opposite the Cathedral churchyard. Often saw the guilty being loaded into the prison vans. We were married in the Cathedral, but that's a happier memory.

I will try to find time to write a review for Amazon.

Thanks for a great read.

I've been away for a few days and it's great to come back to such lovely comments. Do you mind if I quote you on another couple of forums and my blog, please Peter?

Hi Linda
Yes of course you can quote my comments.
I WILL get round to putting something on Amazon but I'm a bit preoccupied with a water leak at the moment. I've got a plumber coming this morning to fix a leak on the stopcock in the house but since my newly fitted water meter shows I've used 3000 Litres since late yesterday I think there's a bigger problem. Looks like I'll have to have Anglian Water in to dig up the garden.

Thanks again for a great read.

Re: My New Novel

I'm putting Death in Spigg's Wood up on free promotion tomorrow (Wednesday) and Thursday. Apologies to those who paid good money for it. It's for a couple of days to boost visibility on Amazon and hopefully boost sales afterwards. People who have done this have reported a boost in sales, five or ten fold, at least in the short term (nobody knows what the log term will be).

The cynic in me says that the real winner from authors feeling they have to offer their work for nowt is Amazon who have a steady stream of freebies to offer Kindle users.

Re: My New Novel

It was worth paying for, so no apology needed.

Re: My New Novel

I paid for it, but I was happy to do so, so no complaints from me about free listings!

Go for it Linda, and good luck!

Sorry to say, I still haven't finished reading it due to time constraints, but when I do finally get to the end, I'll post a full review. I'm intrigued so far....

I would have read more if I actually had a Kindle, but I'm reading it on Kindle for PC...

Re: My New Novel

Don't apologise Linda.
I bought my wife a Kindle for her birthday last week and Death in Spriggs Wood was the first book she bought and she's enjoying it!

Keep at it.

Regards

Re: My New Novel

Thanks guys.

Janet, I know what you mean. A kindle is so much easier than a computer. I spend a lot of time at the computer reading on screen anyway and it's such a pleasure to lol in bed reading.

And it's so reassuring to know that readers are enjoying it. Writing friends are all very well, but they read things in a different way.

Re: My New Novel

i am a reader and not a writer but wanted to let you know how much i enjoyed Death in Spiggs Woods. had already read Wargeld from your first promotion and bought Spiggs immediately. most enjoyable but have to admit we have a common ancestory but we are definitely separated by a common language. keep writing. am waiting for the next one. larry

Re: My New Novel

Thanks bowtie. I know what you mean about divided by a common language. Some people do American editions which have been "traslated", which some US Citizens enjoy, and others get vexed with. An English police procedural is a different type of book from an American hard boiled cop story.

I am glad you enjoyed DISW even so. I'm hoping 9as does every author) that it will become a best seller.

It's now No 10 in the free to download chart. That is pretty amazing.

Well done.
Noticed that when I posted a review a few minutes ago.
