It's a washout - rain stops play

It was the local village fete today, or maybe it wasn't - persistent heavy rain ensured that many of the planned activities were cancelled and although the crowds still came they numbered in the hundreds rather than the expected thousands.

It's raining, there's mud everywhere but it could have been worse - he might have supported Liverpool.

Many of the stalls were flooded

The Pimms bar was abandoned, but there was a happy ending - they relocated to the main bar in the marquee

The charge of the wellie brigade!

What a shame but well done to you and the other hardy souls who still braved it. Well captured.

Love no.2 with the bedraggled lady standing there in her swamped trainers!

We have the Weald Of Kent Craft Fair coming up in a few weeks. I wonder if that will be equally wet.

A wimsical thread in your inimitable style, John. You have an uncanny knack of making the viewer inhabit the scene.

Re: It's a washout - rain stops play

A great set which just about sums up the Bank Holiday we 'enjoyed' here in the south east. In fact it fired us up just about enough to make it to the supermarket!

I like how you have captured the atmosphere and full marks to those who even managed to raise a smile.

We had a Ferrari Festival locally the previous Sunday, which was organised to raise money for charity, but this, too, suffered a prolonged downpour. I guess we know this will happen every year but I always feel very sorry for the folk who put in so much work planning and taking part in these events. Yes, we did support the day in macs and with umbrellas!

Regards,
Ann1e

The classic British summer captured in all it's glory! Very interesting set that tells a story.

Re: It's a washout - rain stops play

Thanks guys, it was a case of making the most of a bad day and at least trying to capture some of the mood. I probably wouldn't have gone myself had I not been helping my wife, who was running a face painting stall.

Lots to look at here John. Love the stylish young ladies in their coloured wellies and even those two elegant pooches look fed up.
Enjoyed this set.

And there was on the news a piece about some guy with a gun being arrested in Dunmow - hope it wasn't the same day, the mud would have been bad enough on its own! I wouldn't fancy squelching around in all that - very brave of you. Like the Pimms stall best!

The guy with the gun was the day after - that sort of thing just isn't meant to happen in sleepy Dunmow!
