E7 and E-M7 rumours

Latest rumour from Nippon Camera via Pentax Forums indicate that the E7 and E-M7 announcement(?) will be out in August/September - at the same time as the 24mpx Canon 7DII:

Re: E7 and E-M7 rumours

The camera model I am expecting before those is an E-P5.

I'm afraid there's nothing new there, David, just existing rumours recycled. You can only hope.

Re: E7 and E-M7 rumours

I'm not expecting an E-7. I'm thinking about picking up an E-M5 for the sensor rather than an E-5 for the build. Then I could pick up some of the fast, manual focus primes now available for m4/3.

So am I right I thinking that Olympus are going to cut out their 4/3 range completely in the near future?

I am waiting for it. Maybe in one day it will replace my E-5.

Except the new sensor, I do not see any reason to switch to m4/3 : no professional tele lenses, not so many macro lenses, very high prices for the lens and accesories.

Even If I pay a higher price for E-7, then I can buy very cheap used PRO lenses. At the end I will have a 4/3 combo wich destroys any m4/3 combo.

As an wildlife shooter, I am using now E-5, 70-300, 50-200, EC-20 and looking to buy Sigma 50-500, maybe 150 F/2.0.
Switching to E-M5 + 75-300 will be downgrade for me. No other telelenses to buy.
And E-M5 is still not good as E-5 for fast moving objects (by example BIFs).

In this moment M4/3 is not yet a real professional system. Maybe it will be in 3-5 years, if they start building professional lenses and cameras. Also prices has to be lowered a bit.

Ah, but the more professional the system becomes, the higher the prices will be, not likely the other way around.

It depends on your usage whether you consider it up to the task or not. What constitutes a 'professional' system anyway?
I read of more and more professional photographers turning to m4/3rds in preference to their heavier mirror box cameras and lenses

Your logic is wrong.
Some proffessional photographers replaced their big cameras with IPHONES. Is this a proof that IPHONES are professional cameras ?

M4/3 can handle already some types of photography at professional level: indoor, portrait, landscape...etc. There are nice lenses like : 45 F/1.8, 75 F/1.8, 35-100mm...etc.
For other types of photography, you simply cannot find good lenses : macro, action, wildlife, sport.

So some people will find m4/3 as a good system for the type of photography they do, some others not (yet).

If I want a tele lens for m4/3, I have to choose between 75-300 and 100-300. Both lenses costs more than 500 Euro but the quality is "entry-level".

With 500 Eur, I bought an used 50-200 MK1 wich is much better than those two from m4/3.
Even if I cannot find an used 50-200, I prefere to spend 1000 Eur for a new one, instead of buying an entry-level lens with 500 Eur.

Yes some people can afford to spend easily 1000-2000 Eur for an lens. Olympus has to offer them a good lens for this buget.

Ok, we have the good lenses, but waiting for new cameras wich can use these lens.

I am describing only the current situation. Everything can change in the next 3 years. Maybe m4/3 will become an proffesional system and replace completely 4/3.

I very much agree with this, I can't see that Olympus will go totally m4/3 they have produced pro DSLRs for some while and when the other manufacturers are still turning out top pro DSLRs why would Olympus go down a different track? With the EVF as it is on the E-M5 (pretty poor in my opinion) it just isn't suitable for a high shutter rate on a fast moving subject - too easy to lose the subject from the field of view. I appreciate E-M5 enthusiasts wanting to assert that it is suitable for such subjects but when you've used the offerings of Nikon and Canon (plus others I'm sure) using PDAF, I can assure you that it doesn't compare. I have an E-M5 and it is a remarkable and useful tool I wouldn't be without but it can't do everything I want, especially in regard to the non-availability of PDAF, OVF and pro telephoto primes. So Olympus I am sure will be looking carefully at the market and come up with what we all want - and a DSLR must be on the cards!

Do you mean there will be no Four Thirds 'solution' camera at all or that you aren't expecting a reflex mirror/pentaprism configuration E-7?

I have posted some reflections on this very topic over at FTU here:

http://www.fourthirds-user.com/forum...ad.php?t=12050

Ian

PS Olympus have promised a Four Thirds 'solution' and the latest rumours now point to it being a conventional DSLR.
