Picture of the day

I am proposing that we use this thread simply for posting images and commenting on them, it will get large (we hope) but it would be nice to see the pics in one place.

Any discussion can continue on the 'Somebody just has to do it thread' that way we can enjoy people's pics whilst continuing the discussion about how people would like to see it refined in the future, is everybody happy with that?

Re: Picture of the day

Here is my choice for today

Snaarman's pic from Cyprus

It was a close call for me between this one and the next one in the gallery with the pots. This one was chosen because it is an unusual take on the 'old car' pic and I thought the treatment and execution fits the subject very well.

Here's my choice for the day, from StephenL

The eye contact and the detail are excellent. I like the way it's been caught with the head turned - a bit different from the normal raptor poses.

Re: Picture of the day

That's a great action shot - was it taken with the 70-300? For an indoors shot without flash and compensating for the bright flash of the welding torch the colours are very good. The only thing I'd be afraid of is the sparks from the welding process - if any hit the front glass of the lens it would melt onto it. I really like the detail - the lizard tattoo on the welders right hand for instance.

Hello Jamie -

You're right this shot was taken with the 70-300, at 70mm, attached to the E-30.

It is not obvious from the picture but it was taken in an unusual situation. The welder is in fact 'inside' in that he is on a boat. He is a blacksmith who has a workshop on the canal - staying in one location for a week or two and then moving on. I took the pic from the towpath so my camera was pretty safe, apart from the slightly different hazard of either me or the camera falling into the drink !

Regards,
Ann1e

Re: Picture of the day

My choice of recent pics taken by Catkins. I chose this because I enjoy images which tell a story. There are many ways of doing this and this is one example. I must admit I don't know anything about taking pictures of planes in flight but this really captured my attention. Nicely done Catkins.

Re: Picture of the day

I think this is a great idea, and I was awfully chuffed to find one of my efforts up there as an opener :-)

Let's keep it going..

Re: Picture of the day

I was hoping that somebody else might choose a pic but as it has been quiet for a while I thought I would choose another.

This has already been shown in a thread but I find this image, by Captain D, absolutely stunning, the detail and composition, along with the 'dont mess with me' look in his eye make this a winner for me.

Come on folks, we dont want this to turn into a Shirley's favourite pics thread! Its very simple just choose a pic from the gallery you like the look of and post it.

Re: Picture of the day

Just having a quick look through the members gallery and came across this. It really grabbed me so I though I'd nominate it.
Hope others enjoy this image as much as I do.

Cheers Hec
