What Digital Camera features E-30, E-520, and Lumix G1

I have just received the April edition of What Digital Camera and the fron cover has a Panasonic Lumix G1 and and an Olympus E-520 on the front cover, depicting a comparison between these two cameras and a Canon G10 compact.

But that's not all, the main DSLR review is for the new E-30. I think the review is pretty good, overall.

Cool Re: What Digital Camera features E-30, E-520, and Lumix G1

I have just bought an e-30 body & to be honest it does`t seem to take as good quality pictures as an e-3 despite having 2 more mega pixels. I know olympus claim the e-3 is still their flagship model (of which I own 2) but I am confused why the quality of the e-30 seems to be worse! I would be very interested to know what other people have to say.

Can you elaborate on how you feel your E-30 images are inferior to an E-3's?

Yes, There seems to be more noise at any given ISO on the E-30 than the E-3.

Is that from RAW or JPEG files, or both. Is there any chance, if from JPEG, that the noise filter settings are different on the E-3s compared to the E-30?

I only shoot RAW, & noise filter settings are the same, the only thing that I will admit is different is that I always use the 12-60mm or 50-200mm SWD lenses on my E-3`s but have only tested the E-30 with a 14-54mm lens so far! (so I may have jumped the gun a bit) however the 14-54mm is still one very good lens!

The lens should not have a bearing on noise. I'm currently doing some ISO noise testing to compare the E-620, which has much the same sensor as the E-30, with the E-3, E-510, and a Panasonic Lumix L10. Results soon...
