Re: Red glow

I haven't forgotten, and I have managed to take some more pictures of the Peonies which I will post here shortly. It looks as if my photographic efforts were well timed, as the wind and rain over the weekend had just about finished the lovely red flowers off by this morning.

Re: Red glow

Thank you very much for all your valuable technical input, Nigel! I will probably be observed on all fours in my neighbour's garden at five o'clock tomorrow morning

She has a beautiful deep purplish one that blooms early (now). I have only pale pink ones. They always come out the day we leave for summer holidays and are ruined fast. Every year.

Re: Red glow

Well, I finally got around to processing the images of our Peonies, which after the weekend's rain are now looking rather sorry for themselves. There are still a few buds to open, but I am not holding out much hope this late in the year.

So, this is probably my final effort this year. I focused fairly deep into the flower to keep the tips of the petals in focus as best I could. I found that the green foliage was rather bright by default, so I turned the green down a bit in Photoshop to make it a little less prominent, and to bring out the wonderful, intense red colour. Otherwise I used no adjustment.

Exposure was hand held, 1/25 at f5.6 (200 ASA) using the 50 mm f2.0 macro lens. If nothing else, this photograph shows how well IS works on the E5!

Re: Red glow

Nicely controlled red showing the surface texture. You've given me something to aim at for next year with all the tips I've gained from here, thanks Nigel. Shame it took an E5 and 50mm to get it, those might take me a little longer to get

Re: Red glow

I have no doubt my E1 would have done the job just as well. If I get a chance I will give it a try.

Re: Red glow

No peonies left but just had to try out some of the help provided here on one of our roses. Used fill flash and a hose pipe!
I was quite pleased with the results, much better than the peonies although I will admit the red colour wasn't as intense on the roses. Feel free to be critical.
