Re: Open your door to Trick or Treat?

I've no problem with any of that, it's the "trick" element that I think is wrong. Tantamount to blackmail, I think it gives kids the wrong message.

My idea of escaping to the pub didn't work out too well - virtually the entire population of the local primary school trooped in en masse! Fortunately the landlady had been forewarned and had a bucket of sweets ready, and there were enough adults with the kids to ensure there were no naughty tricks .

Re: Open your door to Trick or Treat?

Exactly, what sort of adults are they to become if it's believed to be acceptable to 'trick' others. Fortunately I escaped last night having been out all day and not returning home until fairly late.

One down and one to go, in the sense we're heading for another round of begging called Christmas Carols - kids and teenagers turning up expecting money in return for an inability to sing.

Re: Open your door to Trick or Treat?

2 little uns, about ten years old, dressed up as ghoul and witch, and with Mum and Dad. That was it last night. We had a bowl full of various chocolates at the door so I just told them to help themselves. They took just two items each. Nice.....

Sadly it will soon be like the Somme here and the dogs will be cowering in the corners as our local youth engage in pyrotechnical mayhem. Some of the mortars they use shake the houses.

Do you open your door to these morons?

Imagine being confronted with the question Trick or Treat? Then getting your own back by throwing a bag of flour in their direction. (I honestly wouldn't do that, but in my dreams maybe.)
Local kids dressed up in costumes and discretely supervised turned up last night.
Pleasant chat then offered apples, Brussels sprouts or chocolates. They took a few chocolates we had ready for them.
They were OK children and not morons.
