Spring is on it's way...

Went to Testwood Lakes Nature Reserve yesterday:

All the lakes were still frozen, apart from areas around the edges - so we're still in winter's icy grip.

Then I saw these two getting closer and closer, and although I couldn't capture the moment on camera (drat it ), before I knew it they were practically bill to bill and doing their lovely little 'head shaking' courtship ritual:

However, one of the pair was having none of it, so they parted again, only to come back together a little while later to do it again - so maybe spring is on it's way at last. Either that, or they were trying to keep warm

Not brilliant quality (I can never get close enough to Great Crested Grebes), but I just thought I'd give you all some hope of warmer weather to come

Thea

Hi Thea - I love the simplicity of this shot.

Yes it could have been closer. As a matter of interest what lens were you using?

Re: Spring is on it's way...

Thanks Jack

I was using the 50-200SWD and EC-20 - at full stretch. Given the conditions, I think I was pushing both lens and converter to their limits. This is cropped from the original.
