Hatfield Forest May 2014

Hatfield Forest is well worth a visit at any time of year but is particularly spectacular towards the end of May when thousands, if not billions of buttercups flower in the open meadows with a riot of eye-popping yellow. We did this as a group meet several years ago and it's high time we repeated it.

The date is Sunday 25th May and I suggest we meet in the car park at the main entrance at 9.00am. Please note that there is a parking charge of 5.00, but free to National Trust members. You can of course arrive later if you wish and we can make arrangements to meet you.

Facilities include toilets and a cafe, which is handy for a coffee break and/or lunch. These are located within the forest, about a half mile walk from the entrance, although you can drive to an adjacent car park if you wish.

Please list your name in this thread if you are interested and do ask if you have any questions.

I'm interested - put me down as a possible. Are dogs on leads allowed? I might bring the wife. (Note: the last two statements should not be read together. )

I'm off to Northumberland early the next morning but I'll try to be there if only for a couple of hours.

Dogs are allowed off-lead in most of the forest but are required on-lead around the lake and cafe area. It might also be prudent to put Dibnah on the lead if cattle are encountered, dependant upon how she reacts to them.

Re: Hatfield Forest May 2014

Add me to the list please John.

Usual Sunday time constraints for me, need to drop Sandra off at work for 10.00 and pick up again at 4.00.

It's a Bank Holiday weekend so may be a bit busier than usual.

Regards.

Yes, it might be worth getting to the cafe early for lunch!

Re: Hatfield Forest May 2014

John

I'm planning to go to the world rallycross at Lynden hill, Kent that day. But if that falls through I'll be up for another trip to Hatfield.

Be nice to get a morning down at Danbury or somewhere for bluebells as well.

The rallycross sounds interesting, but it would be good to see you at the Forest if you can make it.

The bluebell season seems to be rapidly passing me by this year, but I may be able to fit something in on Saturday 3rd May. Danbury is a pretty good location, would you be free on that date?

Unfortunately not this time - we're going to be in Penang, which does have its photographic compensations...

Have fun.
