Didn't take long did it?

As they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Is that a push-button release I see on the selector wheels?
Now where have I seen that recently?
But no video!

Apparently the Df is only available as a kit with a 50mm lens, at a price of 2749.99!!

Re: Didn't take long did it?

I wouldn't mind having no video. I personally have no use for it. But apparently it costs next to nothing at the manufacturing end.

Still think the OMDs (both of them) look better than the Nikon, although it's not bad.

To be fair, I think Nikon used a locking dial mode button on the D600. I think the difference with the one on the E-M1 is that you press it to lock it and press it again to unlock it. I believe you have to hold the button down on the D600 while you rotate the dial. I could be wrong, though.

Re: Didn't take long did it?

It's a nice camera and I'm sure not influenced at all by anything remotely m4/3rds.

A smaller D4 with retro styling = win for the hefty of wallet.
Way too big to interest me though.

Nice looking camera and very capable too I'm sure. It would want to be very good to beat the M1.

Video? Do Olympus cameras have video?

The original OM cameras looked better than the F's too. In fact, the OM1 was as close as you could get to sex with silver halide.

Re: Didn't take long did it?

It's probably a lovely camera.

Wonder if it's available unbadged?

It is quite lovely. They just went a bit too far, it almost looks like it's been steampunked from certain angles. I reckon after time when you looked at it, it would become a case of embarrassment, rather than pleasure.

Now that would be an intriguing design fashion for cameras!

It's not remotely a smaller D4 - yes it has the D4 viewfinder and sensor, but the shutter is slower, it has an inferior AF system, slower shooting rate, no video, no power grip, etc.

My article on DPNow is here:

Ian

PS It's likely that Nikon was already working on the Df before the E-M5 came out, but with the Pen beforehand, plus Fuji retro style cameras and the Epson RD cameras and even Leica's influence, the Nikon Df is the latest on the bandwagon.

Re: Didn't take long did it?

I am trying to remember when Minox introduced their little replica, retro cameras. Perhaps they were the originators of the trend?

Re: Didn't take long did it?

Mmm. It does look nice, very similar to the brace of FE2s I had a decade ago.

However: The price.....

Re: Didn't take long did it?

I had a Nikon FM. Lovely little camera. The guy I sold it to, back in the 1980s, still has it and won't let me have it back!
