Which magazines do you read?

So which photo orientated magazines are popular amongst the members of this forum?
I used to enjoy the likes of Aperture, camera and AG sometimes. All I find on a newstand of interst now though is Black and White photography.
What do you read? Do you enjoy articles about kit and techniques or do you prefer photographers and images. What is the ideal mix?

Re: Which magazines do you read?

WDC - I like the guides and what not, keeps me in touch with things.

Photo - French - can learn a lot about pictures just by looking without even being able to read French. I like that it often sports pics from different themes, genres. etc...

American Photo

Whatever I happen to see when I go to a stand that covers something I am interested in learning more about, such as various techniques.

Re: Which magazines do you read?

I subscibe to Photography Monthly, I always felt it was a good mix of equipment technique and images but over the last 6 months or so what it seems to think is technique has changed and like a lot of mags now is more about how to tweak an image on the PC! I often find myself disagreeing with what they think makes a better picture!

Escort, playboy etc, errrr wrong forum

Seriously though we buy DSLR User and also practical photography.

I tend not to buy to many mags as I think the advice you can get on forums is soooo much better than mags, however a mag is good to pick up and have a read when you have a spare 5 minutes.

Re: Which magazines do you read?

Too many! There's usually a pile of unread/partially read copies sitting by my armchair.

Amateur Pornographer (Must write to the editor: they keep putting cameras on the cover for some reason instead of the half-naked modules they used in the 80s)
Digital Camera
Digital Photographer
Digital Photo (my wife bought me a subscription... I wouldn't bother otherwise)

I occasionally buy DSLR User, BJP or Photography Monthly if there's something of specific interest. I also subscribe to "The Digital Journalist" online (http://digitaljournalist.org/).

Re: Which magazines do you read?

I rarely buy photo magazines, in my opinion they are a waste of time and money. I'm often tempted when I browse them, in WH Smith, but I am generally only attracted by a couple of items. The artcles are generally quite sketchy in their two or three pages of info, but when you take out the pictures there is very little to read. There is much more and better information to be gleaned from the web, with the various forums and review sites - magazine reviews never give an unbiased report - marketing forces see to that!
The only time I would buy one is to look up the shop price of equipment; even that can be done on the web, so I think that the British magazine is dead.
I have a place in France and I also lived in Germany for a long time. You will find far better in-depth articles in their magazines regardless of subject: the only snag, of course is that speaking French and/or German is something of an advantage.

So the answer to the original Forum question is: none of them are popular with me!

Re: Which magazines do you read?

Of late I have a leaning toward Black & White and Professional Photographer, I find these full of interesting articles about photography and not full of reviews, gadgets, pages of ads etc, of course there is some but the focus is real people taking real photographs.

Re: Which magazines do you read?

Photography Monthly, I feel contains the least advertisement content and the best mix of photographic features although "post Processing" seems to have gained favour over getting it right with the Camera.
