Sigma 150Mm f2-8 EX Dg APO AF Macro Lens for Olympus(4/3 Mount)

Some help and advice please, I was considering getting the Sigma 150Mm f2-8 EX Dg APO AF Macro Lens for Olympus(4/3 Mount), for My E30, I thought perhaps it might be a good everyday all rounder? Comments welcome.

Well it can be an all round lens but it is optimised for macro so it has a deliberate focus mechanism, rather than a fast one. It would be a frustrating choice for moving subjects.

There is however a good bokeh and it is optically quite a fast lens so you can maintain a shallow dof. So a useful long portrait lens

Quite an expensive choice if you are not primarily going to use it for its strength as a macro lens.

Thanks Nick. Put in another way - What would be a good all rounder for general everyday use?:

That's almost an unanswerable question. It really depends on what you shoot and what your current line up (from 9-300mm) is not giving you.

I do notice that you seem to lack a short tele, say something like the 12-60/14-54, but those wouldn't be the right lenses if you want distance and speed.

I agree with everything Nick has said, we both have a Sigma 150mm Macro and they are superb for what they are designed for (Macro) I think you would be very frustrated trying to use it as a norman lens, they are very slow to focus. Another lens to consider would be the Oly ZD 50-200 this is a very good all rounder and is very fast with the SWD focus motor.
