45mm f1.8 Question.

Olympus is offering 30 cash back on the MFT 45mm f1.8 which makes it very affordable as it's on offer at SRS for 179. Reviews of this lens are plentiful and glowing.
However I was wondering as I've already got the FT 35mm f3.5 and 50mm f2 lenses with the adapter for my EM-1 is it a worthwhile purchase?
Also it looks very small so how does it look on the M1?
Thank you.

Re: 45mm f1.8 Question.

The 45mm f1.8 is a superb lens. I use it as a portrait lens and it is 100% useable at f1.8. It also renders very nicely. It will have the advantage over your 4/3 lenses of much faster AF, even on the EM1.

For 150 net, it would be a bargain. Whether you should buy it depends on what you are likely to use it for. It is not a macro lens like your 4/3 lenses, so would not replace them in that respect. I have the 35mm but not the 50mm. The 45mm serves a completely different role to the 35mm (in my opinion). As a portrait lens, I also think it would be better than the 50mm f2. Probably it wouldn't be as sharp wide open, but the faster AF would be a real advantage (e.g when shooting candids). And sharpness is not always the most important criteria in a portrait lens anyway.

Re: 45mm f1.8 Question.

It's such a small, light lens, it makes a great addition to the kit.

Excellent results as well! Well worth the money.

Re: 45mm f1.8 Question.

You will not regret it has someone who had the the 50mmf2 i can say the 45mm is as sharp if not sharper wise open, plus you get the benifit is stop wider to throw backgrond's out even more out of focus and fi.8 is very usabe with this lens.

All taken with the 45mm f1.8 on various cmera's.

It's a must have lens of the Olympus MFT's. It's probably my favourite lens.

Re: 45mm f1.8 Question.

What a lovely lens. Pity my M1 is still away being repaired so I can't try it. It's also a shame there is no hood supplied with it. I thought Olympus had relented and started providing them when I got one with my 14-150mm Mk II.
I think I'll be buying an aftermarket version this time as 30 is too dear for a genuine item. Can anyone recommend a hood or is JJC the only option?

Perfect service from SRS once again and I've just registered for the 30 cash back deal.
Now all I need is my camera back from Portugal.

Re: 45mm f1.8 Question.

You'll get a JJC hood for about 12 on fleabay; am not sure if there's any other options apart from the (very pricey) Oly original hood...... it's a great little lens. Pin sharp.

Re: 45mm f1.8 Question.

I bought mine from Amazon - they had a 10 off voucher on anything over 50 recently and the price was 149 inc. next day deliver so net with the 30 cashback it was 109. Love the size and the brightness, great images and I for one am not a great fan of zooms I seem to just like the limitations of shooting with what's on the camera or in my pocket. Buy one - you'll enjoy it I'm certain.
