A service to Forum members

On another thread some suggestions have started to appear regarding excuses for being late to work because you want to stop and take images on the way. It ocurrred to me that we have a potentially invaluable service here for forum members.

Namely we should all document dodges we have for creating time when we should be doing something else in order to indulge in some shutter action.

So come on chaps and chapesses let's see what how good you are at emulating Roger the Dodger

NB: For those who are not aware of who Roger the Dodger is and his talents you need to research one of the great publications to hit the newsagents shelves. I refer of course to The Beano.

I look foward to reading your ideas.

cheers

Hec

Re: A service to Forum members

I'll kick off with a true excuse - it wasn't used for togging but it could be.

One day, as I was leaving for work, a baby sparrow flew through the doorway and crash landed in the kitchen, before shuffling under the washing machine. It took me 20 minutes to coax it out gently with the aid of a stick and a torch, before returning it into the "wilds" of our back garden.

Arriving at work I was greeted with, "What's your excuse for being late, John?" from my boss.

I replied that I was very sorry but there was no excuse for being late.

He said, "Yes, I know, but what is your reason for being late?"

When I told him he said, "That's so implausible I'm inclined to believe it, try not to let it happen again," and I was off the hook. Sometimes honesty is the best policy.

Re: A service to Forum members

I once missed a flight for a press launch of the, then, new Olympus E-300 in Hamburg, Germany. The M25 anti-clockwise was crawling rather more than usual and I was already behind schedule. But to compound things I somehow managed to miss the exit for Heathrow off the M4. I was then stuck in a jam and it took an hour before I could get off the M4 and back-track. Luckily, the Olympus PR rep re-booked me on the next flight and basically I only missed a boring wait before lunch and didn't miss the important part - the E-300 presentation - er, and some acrobatic dancers messing around with sheets dangling from the ceiling

I'm quite inventive with Excuses, I mean Reasons..

Me: Left alone with freshly baked biscuits; My wife (Val) comes home later.

Val: "I see one of the biscuits is missing"

Me: "Erm.. an Albatross got in through an open window and pecked it up before I could stop it"

Val: "Yeah yeah.. What was it like?"

Me: "Big, with a Beak".

Julia and I both had a good laugh at that one

For me when she asks why I am late,I just say :

Wife - why are you so late?
Me - "I went to get you the biggest bunch of flowers they had,but they wouldn't let me have them cos I had forgotten my wallet - so I had to go the bank and found that the cash point wasn't working - next time eh."

Wife - a sarcastic smirk and a little smile, and "next time don't forget your credit card"

Works for me we have been married some 40 years.

Re: A service to Forum members

Pete that Albatross remark definitely involved a coffee meets keyboard moment.
When serving with the RAF I got in trouble fairly big time once for being late.

Flight Sergeant: "Airman you should have been here ten minutes ago!"
Me: "Why what happened?"
