Am I correct......

that you can't use manual focus in movie mode or have I missed it.

I haven't used movie mode very much but having read so much about the focusing issues of dSLRs when using them for video, I used S-AF, stopped down to f16 to get a decent in-focus DOF, focussed before each clip and got good results as I had plenty of available light.

I did have a little play with C-AF and manual focusing and found both to be a little tricky. With C-AF the camera makes decisions as to what constitutes a need for focus change, this is not foolproof, as you would expect. With manual focus, no matter how smoothly you use the focus ring, given the fly-by-wire nature of the lens, the AF mechanism is doing the work through instruction from the camera which leads to the same noises and step changes as with AF.

I don't have an old mechanically coupled lens to try, that would be interesting.
