Kent & East Sussex Railway

Hi all,

Sorry for the long break from here but I had lots going on with my work on the Hayling Billy 50 website, this being the 50th anniversary of the closure of the branch line from Havant to Hayling Island. Lots of events to organise which can be seen on the Events Page.

I visited the above railway to see their Hayling event. The journey was quite long but, after leaving the motorway, was a very pleasant drive.

On this day, they had two engines in steam, a Stroudley Terrier 0-6-0T tank engine No 32678 and a GW 0-6-2T engine No 6619.

The Terrier was running the 'Hayling Island Service' with a typical 2 coach rake.

The driver, carefully driving towards the coaches to couple up to form the next service train from Tenterden Town.

Cab view. The footplate area was quite cramped but typical of a locomotive built in the 1870's. The large porthole windows offered a good view ahead.

The air compressor can be seen attached to the cab side sheet.

The loco running round its train at the end of the line.

This link is a
behind the Terrier.

GWR No 6619, climbing the steep incline on its approach to Tenterden Town station.

More images on my website

Hope these are of interest.
