Re: Boris Gate

So will Boris get his way tomorrow? I suspect not.

Both sides are so deeply entrenched that they wouldn't accept a compromise even of it was god plated - not that we have much gold left.

I also suspect that Comrade Corbyn would secretly quite a like a No Deal Brexit. He has said often enough that we should leave the EU so perhaps he will get his wish?

I think it will pass, but with an amendment or two to stop future chicanery from Johnson and co.

If he messes up he might find himself on "gardening leave".

Re: Boris Gate

He stated that he'd got a deal between the U.K. and the E.U., but he hadn't. He'd agreed a deal between him and the E.U. The deal will only be between the U.K. and the E.U. if it gets through Parliament. Typical Johnson double-speak!

Laura Keunsberg was getting exasperated with him last night with his smirking avoidance of answers. God help us if he doesn't get kicked out before the end of the year!

Re: Boris Gate

All I can say is, after 3+years, what a mess politicians have made, both the British and EU ones.

This should have been sorted a long time ago but -

The EU don't want to make it easy because there are other countries waiting to see how this one unfolds before they start making decisions whether they want to leave.

Our own clowns couldn't agree because, apart from being sheer bloody minded, they all have their own vested interests in it .... and that's aside from doing sod all until the last minute, lazy load of ......

Re: Boris Gate

I'm tempted to say let's go with this proposed deal, as the lesser of the evils. A hard, no deal Brexit doesn't bear thinking about. Mind you, this latest proposal still doesn't resolve the Irish border issue, but I'm not sure that would even be possible.

Yes, we use old cement bags now - they're far more substantial!

Re: Boris Gate

This agreement is not a deal, it just means we do actually leave the EU, with no way back, and then we have a another period to agree some sort of trade arrangements, which may still be effectively "no deal". If it passes then there is no way to revoke or cancel.

I wonder if Johnson is going to give the D.U.P another £1 billion 'top-up' bung to get them on side?

How about promising the SNP indyref2 for their support?

Re: Boris Gate

Having the 'Letwin Amendment' go through and Johnson stating that he would break the law by not writing a letter to Brussels, I was hoping that someone would propose a 'Dead in a Ditch*' amendment!

* Johnson's words, not mine!

Boris just got his deal through by a majority of 30 votes.

How did that happen? I thought John Bercow had ruled out another vote for now and that Boris was going to pause the Brexit Bill?

Oh I see; they have passed the first stage of the bill but want more time to scrutinise the remainder of it.

What a mucking fuddle.
