As Legend Has It

From this morning's long walk by the river

Being a clear fine day with spring officially just a day away, this morning's walk was quite productive.
Firstly it was the first decent leg stretch I've had for weeks, 6 kms over 3 hrs by the river. I ambled along slowly
in the sunshine watching the Welcome Swallows and cyclists flash by, while lots of photo ops were popping up around me.

M1.2 + standard 14-150mm F4 (carried for lightness instead of higher IQ of the heavy 40-150mm F2.8 pro)

Continuing with our parkland sculptures of Aboriginal culture, here are two more captured on this morning's meander.

Re: As Legend Has It

We get wallabies in zoos over here (and escapees in the wild), but I've never seen a grey or red kangaroo. I wonder if they are too difficult to keep in captivity?

Thanks Mark, I can't answer your question as to what the hand holding the stone represents - perhaps it signifies the close relationship to the earth that our aboriginal community have.

I daresay Red and Grey kangaroos could survive in captivity, Jim. Even prisoners in our criminal justice system apparently do so.

Not having seen many of your sculptural assets, I'm not twigging to your Owl and Pussycat reference, David.

Normally it would symbolise the protection of knowledge in western culture.

The Owl and the Pussy-Cat
Edward Lear - 1812-1888

The Owl and the Pussy-Cat went to sea
In a beautiful pea-green boat:
They took some honey, and plenty of money
Wrapped up in a five-pound note.
The Owl looked up to the stars above,
And sang to a small guitar,
"O lovely Pussy, O Pussy, my love,
What a beautiful Pussy you are,
You are,
You are!
What a beautiful Pussy you are!"

Pussy said to the Owl, "You elegant fowl,
How charmingly sweet you sing!
Oh! let us be married; too long we have tarried,
But what shall we do for a ring?"
They sailed away, for a year and a day,
To the land where the bong-tree grows;
And there in a wood a Piggy-wig stood,
With a ring at the end of his nose,
His nose,
His nose,
With a ring at the end of his nose.

"Dear Pig, are you willing to sell for one shilling
Your ring?" Said the Piggy, "I will."
So they took it away, and were married next day
By the turkey who lives on the hill.
They dined on mince and slices of quince,
Which they ate with a runcible spoon;
And hand in hand, on the edge of the sand,
They danced by the light of the moon,
The moon,
The moon,
They danced by the light of the moon.

Re: As Legend Has It

What a delightful and nonsensical ditty, Beag". It may have some connection to the canoe, but whether it quite explains the paw & stone is dubious.

Re: As Legend Has It

Pandora: Looking at your second picture describing the mismatch between a black duck and a water rat, producing the platypus, I am afraid the first thing I thought of was the rhyme by Edward Lear ( copied out by Beagletorque, above ).

I did not intend to confuse.

David

Re: As Legend Has It

You can't confuse the already confused, David.
I had neither seen nor heard of Edward Lear's rhyme until Beag' posted it. Certainly good for a belly laugh.
