Re: I'm working on this site's sibling...

As the site is for FT & mft, I shall try out some more features of my GX8 “walk about” kit and post them there.

The short cut off timing for entering data, such as lists of cameras and lenses, before having to keep re-entering Captcha requirements is a PITA, so lists incomplete.

OK - I will have a look at that; valuable feedback, thanks.

Re: I'm working on this site's sibling...

Well the image uploading on the new site has me beat, ok its possibly easier than here but it not as simple as most modern forums.
Most forums under the message box is an add/upload image button and possibly one more step insert image,i have tried two ways but still end up with at least two versions in the post.
I will carry on and sort it but if you dont want to put new members off i think it needs to be less complicated, remember every ones level of understanding is not the same and i know to some on here it will be obvious but not to me.

Putting images on the sibling site using another hosting site is easy I agree.

Its when you want to simply upload one of your images from your own computer that things go downhill.

On here you first have to upload the image to your gallery then copy the created link and paste that link into the body of your post, which is usually on another tab in your browser.

The sibling site is not quite as bad but it is not obvious how you get the image the size you want directly into the body of your post. On top of that, it always shows the thumbnail as well.

Other sites simply let you upload your image directly into your post in one click.

What you have described is exactly how it works.

There is an Upload Attachments button on the lower left. Or you can upload from a URL (second button).

Once you have uploaded your photo attachment, you can leave at that and the photo is simply shown as a thumbnail or you can use the Insert options to place the original or a resized version of the image in the body of your post.

This is standard for modern forums.

So I'm a bit puzzled at your comment - please do elaborate if I have missed something.

Ian

The thumbnail should not show if you choose one of the inserted sizes so something isn't right there - I responded to your query yesterday and demonstrated this.

I will produce a video to demonstrate how it's done.

I just had a look at my post on the other site and the thumbnail is still shown as well as the main image in the body of the post.

I think a short video explaining how to upload images would be a benefit to new users.

I don't see why not; vBulletin has user selectable theme options although it's not currently enabled.

Once again, thanks for flagging this!
