Crop & Edit This Picture

As Ellie's idea worked so well and you all had so much fun playing with the picture, perhaps you would like another to play with ???

So off you go, see what you can make of this

Select, new layer of engine number. Paste in layer of face. Flatten, desturate, discontinuous curves, poster edges.

Re: Crop & Edit This Picture

I really must get on with Xmas cards etc.

Three layers - metallic lighting effect on one, smart blur (edges) on another, lot of USM on background, blended.

Horrible! Looks like hdr...

Re: Crop & Edit This Picture

Inspired by the original presentation of the image

Duplicate to 4 layers
Colourise to RGB and unsaturated
Rotate so layers at 90 degree intervals
Merge using various layer settings
Crop to suit
New Image and combine with flipped copy

Re: Crop & Edit This Picture

looks as if Nick and I had a similar idea but I did push mine into a separate programme 'Painter' to add some hand painted watercolour as well as some lighting effects and surface effects. I didn't really keep a log on this one. I am not sure about the rough edge border but it is done and so am I.

Re: Crop & Edit This Picture

Here's my try

Rotate, then created 4 copies at -2, -1, +1, and +2 EV. HDR processed and tonemapped to taste in Photomatrix. Added some illustration like effects via actions and filters (lots of both), and then added torn paper edging which I'm fond of these days from an On-One plug-in.

Moonlight express

Select, invert, desaturate the sky, then levels and tweaking to get the "steam" white. Select the rest and reduce saturation. Retouch the edges. Selective levels to bring up blue for moonlight look. Black to transparent layer in places to give a moody look.

Brief Encounter?

Re: Crop & Edit This Picture

Here's my attempt.

The bits I remember messing with...
  • Very quickly + roughly replace blown right hand sky with sky+clouds from left hand side of sky with clone and healing brushes.
  • LAB colour Saturation boost.
  • Curves to lighten shadows.
  • Nik Colour Efex Pro Tonal Contrast Filter applied to sky + foreground separately and then together to bring some detail out.
  • Reduce Blue and Cyan Saturation in Sky.
  • Add a Vignette.
  • A bit of dodging and burning.
