a return to Painting :eek

I used to paint, my little heart out as a child always with colouring pencils, pad and or/paints. I won an Art Schoolarship but decided against as all the great art, never made much for the Artists, who were long gone I did Business Studies ... and Computers

But, I have not painted since, I hand sketched/painted/decorated my first babies nursery - with Snow White and the seven Dwarfs on the ceiling ... and all the Disney characters (off the childs LP I bought, inc. Daffy Duck, Dastardly & Muttley, Road runner etc., when that house was sold, the curtains, navy blue velvet with silver applique stars and the moon were left ... the new owners kept the nursery as was, and a friend/neighbour said three families kept it, as was, in 17 years

So this, is my first pencil and brush Art ... in urmmm ... ok more than 30 years. I was nervous, very nervous. I kept putting off the actual sketch. But yesterday out came the easel, paints, water colours, brushes and small watercolours pad ...

Fairies are fascinating creatures - a friend or two are seriously into "Fantasy" and I fancied having a go ...

1. Sketch and some base wash

2. more colours

3. SCARY - but some way to go to finish ,,,

Her lips are wrong, too right ... its the way I was sitting, squiffy for late afternoon light but that can be sorted ...

Its sad when you used to able to just "paint it", no thinking about it ... and now have to seriously think HOW TO PAINT ! ... perhaps I shall get my bicycle out ... at least I can still ride that (but then, never stopped cycling )

Shall I sell the "Kit" or persevere ?

I've only had time for a very quick glance at the forum for a while but this struck a chord and I had to make time to reply Chevvy. Painting is a skill - like any skill the more you do it the better you will become. Its not just about pencils and brushes its also about learning to 'see'. Its brilliant that you can analyse your work and be 'constructively' critical - keep positive, keep the kit and persevere!! . I for one would love to see more. Paul
