Climate Change

Just found this on my facebook feed - only comment as an 'oldie' is - how true.

I just hope it does not offend or get classed as 'political'.

Re: Climate Change

Large parts of Australia are only habitable by Europeans with the support of power hungry technology.

My partner's daughter lives on the West coast where temperatures reach 40-45 C in their summer. She says that she likes the climate, but she doesn't really experience it, because she lives in an air conditioned house driving to work in an air conditioned car to an air conditioned office, only going out in the cooler evening!

Yes, I think we can all understand when it comes to climates and I think we have no complaints about using everything you can to make life more bearable.

I live in England, though, and think that what he said is very appropriate for so many.

Re: Climate Change

Yes But...………….

The kids do have a point tho'. don't they.

I know they are put up to it, the youngsters probably don't really understand the whole issues. BUT WE should do, and WE do waste so much. Climate change is happening, partially due to our way of life. Even if it was not happening, how should we justify the plastic waste, the carbon production from vehicles, the carbon waste from energy production.

Lets all get real, we as humanity have to change our ways of life. Our kids are probably going to suffer far more than we will.

Again, a big BUT is that UK is such a tiny proportion of the worlds population, those far bigger country/populations are going to make or break the Climate change issue...……...

Only the power hungry way of life allows them to live there......No real excuse is it, in the long run...………..

Surely therein lies the problem, too many people on the planet. Numbers need to go down somehow.
People the world over need to stop having children they can’t support.

Of course, we have been warned before - anyone remember BC by Johnny Hart ?

Take a look at this -

Sorry, cannot get too serious.

Re: Climate Change

Sadly I find that piece quite offensive.

Australia has the climate to be carbon neutral for its energy production, so HIS generation has more to answer for than the spoilt turds he wants to critique.

It's easy to piss on people being a little different isn't it?

But he has a valid point...

There is no doubt in my mind that climate change is real, and it is man made. It is the younger generation who have most to lose, but they don't seem to be willing to walk to school or give up buying a new iPhone every time a new model is announced. There is also disposable fashion which I and my generation are definitely not guilty of!

I might try to raise the subject of climate change with our daughter next time she has a 2½ hour shower on a Sunday afternoon, but previous efforts have failed.

Just visit any university halls of residence nowadays and you will see lights burning 247 and windows left open rather than turning the heat down. You see they don't have coin in the slot meters like we did; all energy bills are included so they just don't care. And of course when they come home they leave the lights on here too!

Re: Climate Change

So you don’t think even his first few lines ring a little true? I certainly do.
It’s not his generation having all the kids and carting them to school in caravans of gas guzzlers (yeah, OK, a lot of the drivers are actually the grandparents)

I walked to infant and primary school and cycled or got the bus to secondary school. It was almost unheard of then to go by car, besides families might only have one car and that would have been driven to work by the breadwinner (I’ve never won any bread, nor entered a competition to do so!)

Re: Climate Change

I've been away a couple of days and just catching up, but the original post does not have any links so I don't know what you're all commenting on!

But that aside, in my view over-population is the root cause of just about every environment-related problem we are facing today.

Very true Nigel. I probably have shoes and shirts older than your daughter.
In your case however, this could be due to the fact that even your local charity shops wouldn't thank you if you attempted to donate those bright red trousers you seem to have such a propensity for

Oh I'm sure the Harrogate branch of Age Concern would welcome them, but that isn't going to happen in my lifetime.
