My first Waxwings

3 or 4 of them are stationed outside the Council Yard in Morpeth noshing on some rose hips. Not a pretty backdrop, but definitely a pretty bird!

Re: My first Waxwings

Never seen one although in colder winters(not this year), they are fairly common in my area.

Well caught.

Smile Re: My first Waxwings

Lovely. Wish I had been this close and with a camera.

In local bird reports they often say they are in the local Tesco car park. So an even worse backdrop.

But they often stay at a site for days if there are plenty of berries. So you may see them again.

best wishes

Peter

Great shots of a lovely bird John, we haven't had any up here this winter yet.

Re: My first Waxwings

Always nice to see. They're a very hardy species. I photographed them feeding on Chokecherries at -35C in Saskatchewan.

I've never seen any in the flesh (feather?) but I would love to, camera in hand, of course. Very nice shots.

Re: My first Waxwings

The first one is terrific as the background colour contrasts the berries and makes the whole thing look like one of them oriental prints.
The other two don't have that feeling at all.

Re: My first Waxwings

Cheers D&G chaps. They'll be across there when they've finished off all the Northumbrian berries.
