Disappointing

What a disappointment the new Pentax mirror-less K-mount DSLR is, a strange shape and no evf veiwfinder, the later makes it as useful as a chocolate teapot for me.

Re: Disappointing

I fail to see how it can be described as "SLR style" in their own specifications without a viewfinder of some description.

But that apart, if the new OM-D (or whatever) is similar to this but WITH an EVF, then it may give some indication of the price band it could be in, ie, just a bit dearer than this Pentax.

Re: Disappointing

I think Pentax were brave to do this. Unfortunately 'brave' is often synonymous with 'foolish'.

I was at the launch today - see my comments and pix here:

Re: Disappointing

Well, it looks even worse in the hand - very toy-like, especially with that lens. Of course, it may function well, but with looks like that ....

Re: Disappointing

It's not April 1st, what's going on?
Aaarg, the lens, the body, the buttons. Aaarg.
It looks like those Olympis, Canoon, Prentax pretend SLRs they used to sell in airports and unscrupulous shops which were actually focus-free plastic-lens jobbies.

I'm baffled at the intentions of Pentax's design team there.

Re: Disappointing

Not impressed.
Its looks nasty, not good retro and plasticky.
And the pancake lens does it no favours.

I hope the OM-D does not go down this route.
The Pen, to my mind, did a good play on the retro look.

What an ugly beast, styled after the gadgets on Moonbase Alpha.

Re: Disappointing

I have the Pentax Q and it's beautiful but this is probably the ugliest camera I've ever seen and, as Ulfric says above, reminiscent of those cheap, ugly plastic slr lookalikes that did the rounds twenty years ago.
I'm sure the image quality will be great but that doesn't mean that you have to sacrifice style over substance. Olympus and (some) Panasonic have made the CSC a thing of beauty and even the Sony, Samsung and Nikon offerings are OK but this is a joke!
If this is the work of a top designer then God help us all!

More like industrial sabotage if this Pentax is the end result.

I'm actually sorry to poke fun at Pentax, I'd much rather it was a Canon!

Re: Disappointing

I have the greatest respect for Pentax due to thei History and optics.

But this camera is a total waste of resources....

If it at least had an intergrated EVF it could pass as a compact "SLR" and could be a possible alternative back-up body for Pentax users.
And with this design? What were they thinking?

I generally agree with the concept "function over form" but this????
It's not even functional without an EVF and possibly very slow AF (Phase detect lenses on a camera without a mirror??); and the form? Horrible, just horrible....

Too bad....

Re: Disappointing

Aaah. The dead hand of the designer: Remember the Ford Scorpio or the Fiat Multipla

Equally, look what happens when you let engineers design something (and this cost $12k when new)
