The world's most expensive photo.....

I enjoy a nice, minimalist landscape but I'm not sure this one is worth $4300000 (bearing in mind the photographer had to give it a good rogering in Photoshop to make it minimalist).

Absolute madness. A distinctly ordinary image.

Think how much it would be worth with a couple of birds in the sky.

Well, there's a challenge for you all to beat! And, if you did, a boost to Oly's popularity in the marketplace!

Olympic posters, Taylor Wessing Portraits & now this.

I accept that if I could get away with it, I too would be laughing all the way to the bank...

This is yet another example of parallel universes interacting with our world

"The viewer is not invited to consider a specific place along the river but rather an almost 'platonic' ideal of the body of water as it navigates the landscape” - Christie's.

What absolute b******s!

It seems the trick is to waffle a load of rubbish on how something has tortured your mind and it's considered art.

Re: The world's most expensive photo.....

He said he "carried this idea for a picture around with me for a year-and-a-half"

Poor man, having to live with that...I worry for his sanity if that's the best he can come up with...

"In the end I decided to digitalise the pictures and leave out the elements that bothered me," he added

Ah! He had a crap, colourless and boring shot to start with and removed any points of interest to make it even more bland, using his trial version of CS5...I'll give him credit though...his horizon is almost level...!

I do have to wonder about the poor schmuck who paid £2.7 million for that...money/sense? Does not compute! It's the sort of crap that I find in boxes in my local charity shop and discard...but I'll buy it for the frame and the mount...

What IS it that people see in crap like this? Like the recent Taylor Wessing winner, it's extraordinarily ordinary, but at least the guinea pig was sort of cute!

Re: The world's most expensive photo.....

I wondered if this would get on here. Someone pointed it out to me at lunch saying "look Phill there is hope for you to get out of the rat race yet" It reminds me of a shot that I took of my wife on holiday. I took so long to set the camera up she walked off!! Afraid I deleted the shot so it looks like I'll remain poverty striken

Re: The world's most expensive photo.....

Pretentious? Moi?

I wouldn't normally maul another photographer's work but at that ridiculous price I feel entitled to. It's rubbish, the one and only merit is he got the horizon reasonably straight. I was going to say I deleted 200 like this off my hard drive yesterday but on reflection none of them were anyware near that bad. I may be a much poorer photographer but if that's the best he can do I'm a far better and more talented photographer, and that goes for everyone else on this forum too. I hope the poor idiot who bought it isn't too shocked when he comes of the LSD and realizes just what he's done!

It reminds me of the very expensive work of modern art that a cleaner recently scrubbed painstakingly from the floor, mistaking it for a nasty stain!

It seems that to establish the worth of any peice of art all you need are the balls to place a ridiculous price on it. Apparently some people are so gullible that they believe the worth of any peice of art is reflected in its price. My wife entered several paintings in a local art exhibition recently and the organisers were very complimentary but one of them said, "They'll never sell, you haven't priced them high enough." I now know how to price pictures in my exhibition next year; instead of the planned £45 I'll be asking £45,000. If I sell all 40 I'll really be laughing.
