Re: Disappointing

Headline news 'Pentax slip up' this sadly has to rank of one of the most awful looking cameras I have ever set eyes on.
Would you be brave enough to shoot with this in public
I'm very surprised because Pentax's most recent bodies (barring the that little Q thingy) have been rather good.

I can't understand all the fuss about micro and mirrorless when something like that slips easily into a pocket or handbag.

You wouldn't believe it's the same company that makes the K-5!

I liked the Scorpio and the Multipla

One of my best friends from school days is a graduate of the Royal College of Art and Imperial College course on Art and Industrial Design - I will have to find out what he thinks (he's also a keen photographer).

So did I. I think the Multipla was a brilliant design - daring and different but incredibly practical. I see one every morning on my way to work and it is stuffed full of children, sitting 3 abreast and happily gazing out of the huge windows. I was really disappointed when they had to water down the distinctive appearance with the facelift because the public couldn't handle it. The facelift didn't look as coherent a design to me. On the rare occasions when I see a Scorpio now they look quite normal and appear to be lasting well. I guess I must be weird!

Re: Disappointing

Funnily enough I read a review of the Canon G1X the other day and thought that was a strange spec. Sensor 1.5" - bigger than 4/3s but with non-interchangeable 15-60mm (f2.8-5.8) lens and built in optical viewfinder - not evf. Reputedly to be marketed at 699.99 and aimed at the DSLR user as a carry round second camera.

No doubt an esteemed Moderator at you-know-where will already be singing its praises whilst banning anyone who dares declare it anything but the best camera ever.

Well if it is the person I think you mean then here is his answer to the complaint about no viewfinder .

"I wouldn't lament the lack of an EVF as even the best EVFs are pretty poor. Given the choice, when I tesed the Sony SLTs A33 and A55 the back screen was the far better choice.

If Pentax added an EVF you end up with something just about the same as a DSLR but with a poorer viewfinder and I really don't see the point of that."

I'm guessing he has never held something like a 50-300m DA lens at arms length or used a decent EVF.

Re: Disappointing

Just when you think Olympus are in the mire, Pentax come along and shoot themselves in the foot. Olympus were fairly brave with the E-1, E-300 and E-330, but compared to this they were nice looking, unique cameras.

Fugly is the word I'd use for the Pentax, I wouldn't give one house room!

It's a pity really, I really can't understand how they managed to let this one escape out of the door..... it's not April is it?
