Oh... those Oly blues (but I want purples!)

How can I get my E-600 to produce a true rendition of PURPLE flowers!

I've fiddled around with WB, and every other setting I can find but none depart much from the photo below, i.e. purple flowers turn to blue!.....

The 2nd photo is from my E-1. Both taken on full auto with auto WB. Oh look, purple!....

Any ideas???

Re: Oh... those Oly blues (but I want purples!)

Two possible reasons for the discrepency.

1) The E-1 image is about 2 stops over exposed compared to the E-600 - I assume they were taken at the same time?

2) The E-1 is set at Normall saturation and the E-600 is set at High saturation. Were these shot as JPEGs or raw?

There may be a difference in EV but that doesn't turn the blue to purple.
Both normal saturation - I had a play with the 600's saturation settings earlier but again no purples.
JPEGs both.

I had the same thing with my E-510 too.

See: http://e-group.uk.net/forum/showthread.php?t=14874

The E-1's colours seen so perfect but both E-510 and now E-600 don't seem able to do purples!?

Re: Oh... those Oly blues (but I want purples!)

You are correct and all E- models with the Panasonic sensor have this problems with purples and especially the deep indigo purples.

I've said it before and I'll say it again I still think the colour rendition of the Kodak sensor is better.

Saying that I always shoot raw so it is easily fixed at the processing stage.

Top one out of camera jpeg bottom one processed raw.

Re: Oh... those Oly blues (but I want purples!)

Yes, I just found out it's a regular problem on the E-620 with JPEGs:

http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/re...ssage=38674403

http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/re...ssage=32135499

This post seems to confirm what I've found about my E-1's superior colur rendition: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/re...ssage=32103775

So, if I get really hung up on purples I'll have to start shooting RAW+JPEG, yes? I've not yet ventured into RAW, only because I like to plug my CF card in and simply look at the results. Having said that, whenever I do, my 'Master 2' software launches. Maybe trying to tell me to have a go!

Just had a go at adjusting a JPEG in Master 2 to change the flowers from blue to purple.......

Have to have a go at RAW now!

Re: Oh... those Oly blues (but I want purples!)

I was beginning to think I was the one who suffered with this on my E-600!

Likewise I've tried all sorts to get around it, but I've just given up.
If you manage to find a workaround I'd be interested to know how

Just can't fault the E-1 for producing perfect purple JPEGs straight from the camera, here with 70-300 zoom hand held @ 300 (600 EFL) and manual focus...
