Bought an E1 in a moment of madness

Well, it's like this. Cruising E bay the other lunchtime (boredom is a terrible thing) I spotted a good condition E1 with a battery grip at a not too bad price. Before I knew where I was I was the new proud owner! It hasn't landed yet and I was wondering if you folks had any tips or links to useful websites so I can try to learn how to use it well. I am hoping it will complement my E520 nicely.

Cheers

Dan

Re: Bought an E1 in a moment of madness

Hi

You wont regret it.I started with an E500 and then got an new E1 just after the production had stopped for a very good price.
The idea was as a backup for the E500 but found that I used the E1 all the time.
I now have an E3 and the E1 and although the E3 is my main camera I still like to use the E1 from time to time.

Wrotniak has some notes about the E1 but not a full blown set up like he has for other cameras.

Thanks Andy. That guy clearly knows his stuff, I've seen his material on other Olympus gear - very thorough.

Re: Bought an E1 in a moment of madness

I now have my E1 and have had a chance to play. Everybody was right, I no longer think it was a moment of madness - it's a little cracker!

Just done the same myself, I wasn't disappointed either. Check out my Adobe Camera Raw/Lightroom profiles for the E-1:

I tried it out properly last week:

Looks like you've had a bit more practice than me! I'm loving the gravestone shot.

Re: Bought an E1 in a moment of madness

There's no madness required in buying an E-1. All camera's should be built like this and its colour reproduction straight out of the camera is second to none IMHO. Enjoy

It's a cracking camera, congrats on your purchase. I prefer the handling/ergonomics of my E1 to that of my E3.

Thumbs up Re: Bought an E1 in a moment of madness

Heyah,

The E1 is a superb camera, its also the toughest camera since the F2 Nikon,
it bangs out 10x8 - A4 perfectly and I have never noticed the twelve shot buffer. Where The E1 doesnt score is with the screen layout, It constantly gets activated ( But that might just be the shape of my belly) All in all, one of my favourite cameras. You won't regret it.

Steve ;-)

Re: Bought an E1 in a moment of madness

Well, you were all so right! I have taken the E1 on a short holiday to give it a good workout and I just can't see myself going back to the E520. The build quality, picture quality (leaving aside my lack of skill!) and the whole user experience is just so much more satisfying. If it hadn't been for what I read on this forum before I had my little "moment of madness" I would never have thought to buy one, so thanks to all concerned for that. Now I have the camera I need to work on the skills, so I'm plotting the next photography outing already!

Re: Bought an E1 in a moment of madness

Dan, I'm glad you it worked out for you. I have to sell two camera's to fund my purchase of an E-30. I have the E-330, E-510 and an E-1. I'm keeping the E-1. Thats how high I rate mine.
