18-180 Lens 4/3rds mount

Does anyone know this lens ? what is it best for ? What is not good ?

Does anyone have an idea of price ?

as He indoors has one on his Christmas list along with a 7-14 I think I may manage a deposit and he can pay the rest ... depends on price ?

Re: 18-180 Lens 4/3rds mount

Hello,

I have this Len a while now since buying off PhilD. I can't fault this as a general use lens. When I am messing about riding around on trains in London and travelling light this will be in the drag a long case mostly on the old faithful E510. Just I case I get to have a walk around somewhere in the madness of London. Wether that is the strange swans(really pelicans)in St James Park or down by the river.
I don't know if you saw the red arrows I posted not to long back they were taken with this lens but on the E5.

I can't fault it

Ian

Re: 18-180 Lens 4/3rds mount

I used to have one and used it regularly with the E-1. After reading a number of middling reviews, I was quite surprised at how decent it was - in particular I thought the bokeh was less busy than similar superzooms from other manufacturers (I've also used the Tamon 18-250 on Pentax, and thought the Zuiko was better in both build and image quality). On a newer body with IBIS, it should be a better match than with the E-1 too. For some, 18mm won't be wide enough for a general purpose lens, but at the right price I think it's a decent buy.

Re: 18-180 Lens 4/3rds mount

I concur with everyone else it's typically as good as the 40-150 I'd say. Only drawback is the 18mm wide end and its not that fast. I'd say it was definitely better than the reputation it's got. Only reason I sold to Ian was because I got a 14-150 PanLeica lens to replace it.

Re: 18-180 Lens 4/3rds mount

I thought that the 18-180mm was quite a decent lens taking into account the price, size, and zoom range. Ideally it should be used side-by-side with something like the Zuiko 9-18mm to make up for it's lack of width. Actually, one of the best features that I liked about the 18-180mm was it's lack of zoom creep when the lens was pointed downwards - quite a feat for a superzoom!
