You could at least offer to take me out

... after I went to so much trouble dressing up:

Nice sharp image. ISO 800? But there isn't any noise!

70mm @ f4 - is that the 70-300mm wide open at the short end? I thought people only used these racked right out to 300mm!

Are you sure it was shot on 4/3? - it's got bokeh!

Nice shot.

Yes, to all the above.. ... I am learning the lens as they say.

First impressions:

Its much better made than I was expecting, and a bit heavier. I was expecting kit lens quality, but its much nicer than that.

From 70mm and up to 100mm it can be really sharp, particularly at f8. That was an unexpected bonus.
Here is a crop from the original, and this is, as you say, wide open...

At 300mm you do need to go to f11 go get full sharpness, and thats going to need more ISO than the 200 I generally use. OK, so I get used to 800, maybe I will even try 1600 (!)

300mm is a mighty long lens and needs real care hand held.

And, yes, the bokeh is actually quite nice. Another bonus.

Re: You could at least offer to take me out

Great detail there Pete at 70mm.

I have to say the 70-300 does need careful handling, especially @300mm, but the sharpness (though not as good as @70mm and f8) at the long end and wide open is, for a budget lens, awesome.

This shot was taken yesterday (Sunday), and the EXIF is 1/2500, f5.6, ISO400, 263mm - handheld. I absolutely love this lens.

How do you find the AF speed for sports? I would have thought it might be a tad slow?

Re: You could at least offer to take me out

I find it fine for what i use it for, Pete. I sometimes have a focusing issue - but this is usually when I am too slow to spot the action, then put the camera to my eye and try to get an image. It happened yesterday with the same girl as in the shot above - she scored the first try of one of the games, and I was watching the game excitedly rather than being ready to fire off a few shots of her scoring.

By the time I had realised, and put the camera to my eye to try to get the shot, she was almost standing up after her 'dive' over the line with the ball, and I missed the focus - but this was more of me being a nonce than poor performance of the lens.

I must also say I do tend to use S-AF + M rather than C-AF + M - using the finger repeatedly when required to get focus.
