Re: A Parable of The Millennial Son and the Wood Burning Stove

Was the inside ice problem exacerbated by the then popular paraffin stoves?

Boom, boom, boom Esso Blue!

I certainly remember frost inside the windows. The young people today would never believe it but we had proper cold winters in those days!

My bedroom was above our Dining Room which had a Rayburn stove, rather like a modern log burner. The Rayburn was usually kept alight night and day during winter, My father always reckoned my bedroom was the warmest in the house but it didn't fee like it!

All of the bedrooms had proper fireplaces but my parents declined to use them for safety reasons and because of the mess so we just got used to the cold. It probably did me more good than harm anyhow.

"we now advise that people heat their homes to at least 18C (65F)"

Below zero winter camping with ice inside the tent hasn't killed me yet. But I have been looking at tents with woodburning stoves.

My bedroom was in the garage! Well, we called it a garage but it was just a couple of rusty corrugated iron sheets propped against the wall, to hold our bikes.
