Built in X2 TC

Equine Silhouette
by Mark Johnson, on Flickr

There is a discussion going on about a new X2 TC in the offing. The Em1 ii and other Oly cameras have a built in X2 TC. I understand its just (!) a software enlargement of the original. But the above photo was taken using this X2 jobby, at a distance of about 60 metres with the Pany 100-400mm. I have made it a silhouette for my photographic reasons, but looking closely, its good resolution. Maybe I should use this X2 TC more

Re: Built in X2 TC

I never realised you could do that. Back to RTFM for me. I thought it could zoom to aid focussing but not actually take a shot at 2X.

I have found that these two functions clash! If I use the zoom aid to focus, the X2 TC won't work. Have to switch off and on to get the TC to work. But todate, I have rarely used it.

I have assigned this TC to a button, so its easy to switch on and off...……:-)

Re: Built in X2 TC

Just tried and it only works if you are shooting jpg. It does work if you shoot both but only the jpg is enlarged.
I have learnt something new today so will assign it a button. Thanks.

Re: Built in X2 TC

It just crops the centre part of the image and then upsizes it to 20mp. Can work OK for images for the web etc. but I wouldn't rely on it if you need more resolution. You can do the same thing in software, but this is more convenient. I wish they would offer it in different sizes such as 1.4x
