Re: Hot shoe cover

I think the extended 'tail' on the original is designed to protect and retain the accessory port cover, which plays a part in keeping the camera splash proof.

I got fed up with losing my hot shoe cover every few months and after hunting around at home I found a neoprene O-ring/seal about 45mm in diameter and 2mm thick. I stretched this around the viewfinder hump, tucking it below the Olympus logo at the front and over the tail of the cover at the back. I fitted it over a year ago and haven't lost a cover since. As it is black it is hardly noticeable when in place on the camera.

I don't know where it came from but I think it is probably a plumbing item which I bought from B&Q or Wickes.

I don't at the moment but I will try to take one when I have got another camera working to shoot it with. I might need to charge the battery for my E510 or E30.

Incidentally I bought my spare covers from Luton Cameras and they were very helpful.

Re: Hot shoe cover

Re: Hot shoe cover

Here are a couple of pics of my Blue Peter-style hot shoe cover retainer, as mentioned above. I can't believe how dusty the camera looks in these shots. It's not that bad in real life honest.

Re: Hot shoe cover

I purchased 5 spirit level bubbles on eBay that fit the shoe and cover the contacts. I think they cost 99p delivered from China! At that price.................!
