Just horsing around...

I'd booked today off work several months ago as I was planning to spend the day getting ready for a trip to Durham Miner's Gala with Nelson Brass...unfortunately the band decided not to make the trip this year.

I toyed with the idea of cancelling the day's holiday from work, but the weather changed my mind and I decided to go for a lovely long walk...much better than sitting in a stuffy office!

I spent a couple of hours on the canal in Burnley before heading back towards home...I count myself very lucky to have the lovely River Calder running past the bottom of my street, just a couple of hundred yards away.

There's always something to see and today was no exception!

Paddy's first time in the water...

His companion Flossie enjoyed it too, but wasn't quite so exuberant!

I've emailed the photos (and a whole lot more!) to the owners and they are absolutely delighted with them. I only noticed after I uploaded the photo's that Flossie appears to be blind in one eye...didn't stop her having a whole load of fun though!

The day was rounded off by a lovely walk back to Gawthorpe Hall, our local National Trust property, where I was grateful for a nice strong pot of Yorkshire tea...I needed it! I'd walked for miles along the canal and river today and was flaking out from the heat...

I'd become rather disillusioned with my photography recently, but today has been just fabulous...

Janet

What a fantastic photo opportunity, you never know quite what you will find! To cure your disillusionment I prescribe more long walks with your camera!

Superb pictures Janet. I'd recommend much more walking if you get shots like these.

Re: Just horsing around...

a blue eye is not uncommon in "painted" horses ... it is rarely blind

"Wall eye is a term used when instead of a full blue eye, the eye might be partial blue and partial brown... kinda like a wall painted two colors.
There are no health issues , its just a color. Seen in lots of paints/pintos.
Is the horse blind or anything? Just because a horse is "walleyed" doesn't mean anything unless they are using the term for a blind horse, which has nothing to do with the color
. "

Lovely sharp images - no wonder the owners were chuffed

George, you must have been exhausted in the heat today!

I hope the band go next year...it's quite an experience.

Just horsing around...

Just a bit, we march for Chopwell, and do a 1.6 mile walk around the town. We marched there at 8am then back to Durham. if you know it you will recall its very hilly.

I didn't mind the Durham leg, there was some shade from the taller buildings. Our band made the BBC outside the county. I'm not on it but there is a good shot of our percussion section
