Any knowledge on 'Spectral Trace' for UV filter glass?

I'm going to buy a small piece of circular un-mounted UV or Skylight filter glass for lens protection for my XZ-1.

My local Schott glass agent is sure he can help but has asked me the following:

"We have all the Schott Filter materials here under the Schott Codes and there's a good chance I could match your requirement.
Unfortunately we don't recognise the "Photography speak" and I need a spectral trace from a catalogue to match against the Schott specs.

Could you please provide one asap?"

I've no idea what a spectral trace is! Can anyone answer his question in relation to a UV or Skylight filter?

Thanks for any help!

I would think he's looking for the wavelengths of light that UV and/or daylight filters are supposed to be blocking. There is a little information about UV + daylight filterd here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UV_filter
and here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photogr...nd_ultraviolet

You could try contacting SRB-Griturn - http://www.srb-griturn.com/ . Their main thing is engineering metal bits for adapters of all kinds, but they also have plenty of experience with filters. They made me a rain-filter for the OM 250mm f/2 and I believe they supply television companies, so they may well know about glass specs. They are generally very helpful folk.

Good luck ... John

Re: Any knowledge on 'Spectral Trace' for UV filter glass?

Thanks for your suggestions.

I emailed the Schott agent back:

"As I usually use Hoya filters, I've had a look at their catalogue, here: http://www.hoyafilter.com/pdf/HOYACatalog.pdf

P.4 shows how one of their UV filters is made up.

P.64 Shows what I think you're after for UV L39, UV L41 and Skylight 1B filters."

No response today, so I may try the people above.
