Re: WWT Welney "photographers hide"

Well, we've not reached the minimum for us to get exclusive use, so I'll leave until the end of the week, to see if there's more interest...

Re: WWT Welney "photographers hide"

We’ve made it to the minimum number, so can we sort a date out now? Week commencing 11 December is probably as late as we want to go and it will probably be flooded or very near.

Can each of you check your diaries and say which days you can do - hopefully we’ll end up with a couple of days to choose from!

I can do 11, 13, 14 & 15 that week.

Re: WWT Welney "photographers hide"

We can do any day during that week, it looks like the 11th is looking favourite for most though.

Thanks again for taking the initiative on this Walti, it will be good to get the opportunity to meet other members of the Forum.

Re: WWT Welney "photographers hide"

I can probably do any day that week; prefer not Tuesday or Friday.

It could be chilly ...

Do I need a lens as long as my arm to feel I'm part of it? ;-)

Very likely chilly, as the hide is right against the water, so is often a lot colder than outdoors!

Lens - I was taking some close-up photos with the 12-40! there are sometimes some Canikon users there who are very snobby about their kit, however I've been approached two or three times now to explain the OM1 mkii as they've heard good things... giving to them to have a go seems to be a worthwhile method of getting rid of any prejudice!

Re: WWT Welney "photographers hide"

I have just phoned and booked the 11 December - all day.

Opening times are 10-5 as standard, however they are willing to let us in early if we wish (to be arranged nearer the time)

It WILL be cold so dress accordingly.
It may well be flooded so ensure you bring wellington boots - they will cancel if it gets too deep! - I will try to do a last minute check during the week before though I am away on holiday so may not manage it!
As the reserve floods for winter less and less of it becomes available to use, if you are coming down from the north of the reserve check to see if the A1101 is flooded before you set off and go around through March to miss the flooded road (there are illuminated signs to warn you!) The A1101 is useable from the South to get to Welney reserve.
There are chairs and A table down there however using the low level viewing port will need something to sit/kneel/lay on (dependant on flooding)
I'll bring a camping table to ensure theres somewhere dry to put bags down.
There is a cafe and they are happy for take-away cups and plates to be brought across.
One of the wardens may join us as she has an E-610(?) and is thinking of upgrading so I've told her to bring her kit to try with the different bodies we will have with us (hopefully everyone will support that?)

Edit:

I made a couple of mistakes...
The fee is likely to be £60 for the day as they want a donation and I thought it was a round number! (£10 each)
There's only ONE low level port not two!

Re: WWT Welney "photographers hide"

Perfect - yes, the 11th is fine for me.
I’m currently in Quebec, hence the slightly slow response!

Many thanks for fixing this.
