I take it you are referring to pixel size, base ISO, dynamic range, size etc. I too am generally happy with these as well but I would like to see the smaller cameras (eg E-M5 & PEN-F) make use of on sensor phase detection to speed up and maintain autofocus and improve CAF.

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

It does look like a pop-up flash. The slow reveal has been rather spoilt by the highly detailed leaks!

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

I have to say that, notwithstanding the price, with the snippets we have seen so far it is bringing back fond memories of the E3 which always felt very good in my hand.

Still think Olympus should be majoring on pushing the size advantages of m43 but what do I know.

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

If Olympus had the money to invest I guess they'd be joining Panasonic (and other collaborators) by offering a FF camera. There's enough market segmentation to justify two camera systems: The small sensor MFT offering the benefits of size, weight, remarkable image stabilisation and other things I can't bring to mind at the moment, and a FF sensor offering greater opportunity based a sensor having four times the surface area.

They’ve done well to stay out of the saturated FF segment.

Pop up flash! That sounds more like a consumer oriented camera. (Actually having a small pop up flash is great in practice).

Next thing you will be telling me is that it will have the auxilliary connector below the flash bracket so I can add my VF-4 and have a tilting viewfinder. If I ever get another one I may well take it apart and extend the cable so I can have an off camera viewfinder.

Think of the things you can do with 4x the realestate. Why push the envelop with convoluted processing algorithms when it's always better to do it at source?

They will get left behind you know.

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

A tester has leaked out his/her first impressions from the camera.

"Video specs are on par with the GH5s, autofocus equal to the Sony A9, best EVF in the industry!"

AF equal to A9 sounds an accomplishment (I don't care much about video).

Later in the discussion the sensor is touched, the same tester claims better than half a stop compared to EM1.2 and also better than D500.

The hand-held hi-res feature is also touched upon, "really usable in good light".

If this is true then it sounds promising.

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

My mantra has been; “start with the end in mind”!

So: If all I need is a record shot, my iPhone is perfectly adequate and has the huge advantage of mostly always being available.

If I am likely to print the images at bigger than A3 (a rarity) then I’d probably hire a MF camera.

For 10x8 prints and coffee table books, the 16 & 20 MB I have already is perfectly good and oftentimes surprisingly good.

For digital projectors, UHDTV and even 5K monitors, my system produces far more resolution than is needed and all that precious raw data has to be “manipulated” to fit the format of output device.

As for social media, I may as well use my grandsons Fisher Price “snapper”...

Ok, so the very latest system has many many better bells and whistles, but I do wonder, sometimes, how on earth we ever managed to photograph a bird in flight, with our all manual film cameras.

Having said that, I shall be up front to get my grubby paws on the new camera as soon as I can...

Agree with most of your points.

Would love to see someone post a bird in flight shot taken with a manual film camera, that must have been very hard to do.

The whole point of the never-ending use of technology is to allow people less skilled to achieve the same or in many cases better results.

Think of the large heavy lenses!
