Any rumers of MFT 300 f2.8

I just wondered if anyone had come across anything as it would be handy to have the extra stop .

Aaarrrrggghhhh! Stop it!

There is a 4/3 300mm f/2.8 which was reckoned to be pretty good, and should work well with an adapter. Not sure what used prices are like.

I've not seen any rumours of such a beast... and I suspect it would be VERY expensive as well as VERY heavy!

WEX is advertising a used one in 9- condition for £2,564.00. It is out of my league in all sorts of ways. Tord has got one and I think he said that he was going to try it with a E-M1 Mk2.

Re: Any rumers of MFT 300 f2.8

Yes I did read up on the 4/3 one but Its not for me I was thinking a mft would be around £4000 but if its closer to £6000 well that's a bit much for a 300mm lens .
Thanks
Rob.

I take it everyone has forgotten about the 500mm f/4 that Olympus have a patent on.

I believe there's some shots taken with one in the gallery.

Yes, I have the 4/3 300/2.8, purchased some 3 years ago on ebay, "As new" (had been un-boxed and re-boxed) at a price tag of 3000€ as there was no other bidders.

I just got my hands on a E-M1 Mark 2, "try before you buy". Gave it a good workout during a field test early this morning. Findings when used with the 300/2.8:

AF-S acquisition with the Mark 2 is faster, rarely any hesitation seen as was quite often the case with the Mark 1. Not rocket fast, but the setup feels capable of capturing medium fast paced action.

AF-S accuracy is improved over the Mark 1. However still I have a feeling there is some spread.

AF-C still to be tested. Maybe later this evening, having lunch now...

Stay tuned...

Re: Any rumers of MFT 300 f2.8

Here are a few first samples from a casual session by the local pond. These are with the 300/2.8 hand-held. I am not used to the camera and realized after a while it was set on Auto-ISO, default aperture F/4 and longest acceptable shutter time 1/250s which is maybe on the limit for this setup also considering there were wind gusts to take into consideration.

Slight crops for re-composition and horizontal alignment. (I have a feeling the gauge is not calibrated).

Anyway, looking promising I think.

The IQ delivered by the camera is very nice. I must confess I am tempted...

More photos will be posted later.

Re: Any rumers of MFT 300 f2.8

Yes they do look promising Tord, although they should do considering the quality of the lens. I really like the DOF with the Greylag goose and goslings. I am not used to seeing Fieldfares at this time of the year as ours have all left now.

The Mute Swan is nice. I would clone out some of the crap on the water of the Grey Cheeked Grebe.
