Bonus capture

I was tracking birds and this fellow landed on a twig, right in front of my nose!
Quick change of settings, although thankfully I had the wonderful 70-300mm lens on.
I have now learned he is a "Graphic Flutterer Dragonfly" - what a fabulous name!

Superb shot of an enigmatic creature. Can't wait until ours start to emerge (2-3 months yet)

Hi Gazza - The exif data tells me the Focal length was 133mm. The lens was the 70-300 mm (140-600mm equivalent).
I would estimate I was standing about 1 metre from the dragonfly, perhaps a little more. I left air around him and did a minor crop for the photo.

You need a bit of luck sometimes Paul - give those pups a pat from me for Easter!

Tee hee Chevvy - it does seem as if I am getting amongst winged-things lately doesn't it?
I am getting withdrawal symptoms from not photographing my roses, but gee, I am enjoying these new challenges, and thanks for your nice comments - they spur me on!

Wow, amazing luck.
The pose of the wings, like an aeroplane's propeller. Great.

Lyn, Roses in summer and autumn and BiF in Winter - as without the leaves and grand stocks of food it is 1) easier to see them and 2) you can entice them with Titbits feedings for "The Pose" desired ! I shall be back to the Red Kites at Henley soon with more tasty Morsels (carefully placed oin fence posts and log piles
