Had a play with this this in PC World today

Samsung MV800

http://www.photographyblog.com/news/samsung_mv800/

I was waiting for the camera bag I'd reserved online to be located (it wasn't!) and spotted the Samsung on a special offer at 179.

Had a play and was impressed with the 16MP, swing-out 3" touch-screen, 5x optical zoom, manual control, and small size. I was comparing it to my XZ-1 when I saw the Samsung's lens speed f3.3-5.9.

Phew! That made it easy to walk away!

It did make me think about my ideal pocketable compact. The XZ-1 is nearly there with its f1.8-2.5 i-Zuiko lens, but Olympus need to add a slim multi-angle screen, like that of the E-620 etc. (not like E-PL3 or this Samsung), with touch-screen capability, AFL/AEL button, and a close zoom facility for manual focus (as with the E-PL1). Those improvements alone would make it a real compact winner and perhaps more worthly of its 399 retail price (299 in the shops).

Is that to be the XZ-2 I wonder?

If only the manufacturers would read these forums and pick up on points raised such as this, I'm convinced that there would be some real market share winners in their product lines.

Maybe it's like the new Nikon 1....

If my XZ-1 did everything I want, I wouldn't need the E-PL1 and E-1 for things they do which it doesn't?

But if Olympus produced a 'do it all' camera they'd pick up far more business from other brand owners I think?

Oh yes...... did I mention making the XZ-1 waterproof as well?
