Fancy a swim?

I had a plan to snorkel this summer with the XZ-1 and photograph intertidal life, but these are still preventing me from going in...

We're having a bit of a bloom of tiny crustaceans as well. Maybe I could do some underwater macro's? If I'd just dare to go in...

But these are cute though!

Re: Fancy a swim?

Quick answer to your question, no thanks!
Nice set, I like the colour contrasts in the first two. The XZ-1 is certainly doing the business

Re: Fancy a swim?

It's a really nice little camera and I looked forward to using it under water, but so far I haven't done any snorkelling, just dipped my hands in behind these critters and snapped a few quick ones. I'm still amazed at how well that camera works! It certainly doesn't have to be a point and shoot. The tiny crustacean things are making for some very bad visibility, though.

Re: Fancy a swim?

Now Cathrine, here you enter a domain that none like me dare follow, stingers or not. My bone density is such that the Dead Sea was named after goofs like me who thought they would float in it. My daughter once fitted me up in her wet suit and I damn near drowned. Water is for fishes and aquatic chicks with XZ1s.

I suppose the pictures are nice even if they do make me nervous! lol

Seriously though, they are very nice.

Re: Fancy a swim?

Cathrine FAB shots of the jellies - scary density of population :EEK but I love the small crusts - such clarity! I have to ask were you holding the XZ-1 above or under the water ? and does it have an "underwater" setting ?

Re: Fancy a swim?

Chevvy, yes, it's under water, fitted in the under water housing made for it. The XZ1 can also use some PEN equipment fitted on the hotshoe. I'm holding it under water, but by dipping it (as I'm too big to fit between the jellies ;-)) so composition is a bit difficult. It does have under water settings, but as all scene modes, that means shooting jpegs, so I shoot manual, aperture or shutter speed priority. White balance on Auto.

WOW ! I had a look at the Olympus www and discovered the u/w housings for the XZ1 - I am mighty impressed by the IQ of this camera and it seems you are having a lot of fun with it ... looking forward to a few more ...
