Re: People You Admire

In sporting terms it has to be Sir Bobby Charlton- skill, class and a total gentleman who puts most modern footballers to shame.

Politically, Tony Benn. Did not agree with some of his views but a staunch defender of Parliament and as far as one can tell an honest politician.

Music: Jimi Hendrix. A game changer in terms of what was possible with an electric guitar.

Music - Totally agree with the choice of Jimi Hendrix and the reason for choice.

I would also like to add -

Keith Moon, Yes, he tumbled over himself sometimes, but hey, what a drummer.
John Entwistle, He played that bass guitar as though it was a lead guitar. Totally awesome.
Keith Emerson, for his awesome work with The Nice as well as ELP.
Mark Knopfler, what an amazing guitarist.

Keith

The organist at Passau cathedral, Europe's largest cathedral organ - Edgar Krapp. Playing such a phenomenal instrument with a name like that takes REAL guts!

Having listened to organ music in that very same cathedral and, if the organist was Edgar Krupp, then he was certainly living up to his name on the day. I hasten to add that the 'very poor' comment was made by a German friend who is a musician and lectures at university. His forte' is jazz on the piano and has played in concerts all over the world.

I can't imagine a jazz musician ever liking a baroque style organist...

Re: People You Admire

Since others have posted footballers (I loathe football!) I have to say Bert Trautmann. Coming here as a PoW, and then at a time when many Brits hated Germans with a vengeance to pick such a public career as a goalkeeper took incredible guts and determination. And then playing on with a broken neck in 1956, well, what can I say?
