Re: Gloves - photography for the use of...

I've been using these whilst out (freezing for science!) doing a bit of astronomical observation & photography...

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

They are surprisingly warm & have great grips... & great for my arthritic paws too!

Re: Gloves - photography for the use of...

I’ve just bought a pair of prologic Max 5 neoprene gloves. Prologic is a fishing brand I’ve had previous excellent experience with. They have the thumbs and 2 fingers on each hand with the fold back design. Importantly the fold back slits overlap to keep out the cold and wet. I tried them on side by side with sealskinz and there wasn’t any reason to spend 3 times the amount for the sealskinz in my opinion (I like sealskinz and use their socks)
The only drawback for me is the real-tree camo pattern which I’m not particularly fond of.

They are on amazon etc and go outdoors sell them. Expect to pay £16

There were mac gloves at the photography show thin but you could work touch screens using them seemed to be selling well but at £30 I gave them a miss.
Did anyone purchase them?

Yeah. I bought a pair at the show last year on the recommendation of a friend. I wear them a lot - alone in cool weather and under a pair of thicker gloves with fold-back fingertips when really cold.

Very convenient and much less fiddly than any other undergloves Iíve ever used, and grip of equipment in the wet is extremely good. Theyíre lasting well.

I believe you get what you pay for with these.

Re: Gloves - photography for the use of...

I saw some at the show and tried them but could not find a size that seemed to fit properly.

We all differ widely in width of palm, and length and thickness of fingers, and glove makers have to make compromises. This doesnít matter so much I guess for your average, thick glove, but thin ones that are designed to allow fine movement and feeling do need to fit reasonably closely.

I find the MacWets fit reasonably well - theyíd be better if the fingers were slightly shorter, but the extra material isnít so much for me that it gets in the way.

Itís one of the advantages of the NEC show that you can try out loads of different things, including things that you intend to use in combination but which arenít sold by the same supplier.
