Re: Sleeping Beauty

Our daughter had her birthday today. She's a teenager now, but this brings back happy memories. Nice shot.

Re: Sleeping Beauty

Feel free to offer any C+C people. Helps with the learning curve.

Really should remember to put these in the "looking for perfection" as I don't seem to get much feedback from "Foto Fair"

When she's a teenager you can dig the image out, Photoshop a bogey in one of her nostrils and show it to her friends!

Re: Sleeping Beauty

Lovely shot. I would darken down the left hand bottom corner a bit if it were mine.
I loved Jim's comment LOL.

Re: Sleeping Beauty

The nostrils thing was picked up by a pro portrait tog over at TP and to be honest its the part of the shot that im not sure about.

I like the closeness and angle but wish it didn't show right up her nose.

Re: Sleeping Beauty

I agree with Dave's comments re the bottom LH corner needing darkening. I do find the flash highlights around her lips a little distracting. I know it may be difficult but the image would be improved for me if they were taken down a touch.
I would be interested to know why you have shown a mono version as opposed to a colour one.

Thank you for the reply.

Its good to have this feedback because the areas that I thought could do with more work are the areas that you guys commented on.

I wasn't particularly happy with the LH corner of the image, mainly the OOF part of her baby suit.

The fact that the picture looks up her nostrils worried me a bit also.

And as you mentioned, the highlights around her lips from the flash.

Apart from all that, I still like the shot and will definitely try to improve certain parts of it in photoshop.

As for my reason to convert to Mono, no other reason than the fact that I really like B & W Photography.

Believe me, those of us that have got teenage or grown up daughters will know the value having ammunition, in preparation for when they start trying to gain control of your life!
;^)

More seriously:

We all take photo's of our growing children, but forget to record their speech development, and consequently have a gap in our memories. Try to record her gurglings and speech development as she grows up.

Jim

Re: Sleeping Beauty

Just a tad more DOF woud just sharpen her ear and the blanket and a small pace to the right would cure the straight on nose.
You could try bouncing the flash off a white reflector on another take, of which I am sure there will be plenty.
Having grown up with only B & W, I like the detail revealed, spcially those fine hairs near her ears, you must be so happy.
